The Smith Commission, charged with producing by the end of this month a Command Paper on an enhanced devolution settlement for Scotland, has opened submissions to members of the public.
It has diluted the democratic impact of this move by calling the process for such submissions: ‘Have your say’, which is trivialising and more than a tad patronising.
And with the Command Paper to be ready for transmission to the UK Government in 23 days, it is unimaginable that such submissions could get serious consideration in that timescale. This smacks of tokenism, or the latest edition of Politics for Dummies.
